Dr. Coca completed his undergraduate education at Alexandru Ioan Cuza University in Iasi, Romania, graduating with a thesis in Theoretical Particle Physics. After one year at University of Groningen, in The Netherlands, as a Socrates Fellow, he moved to attend the University of Rochester in New York where he obtained a Master and PhD in Experimental Particle Physics studying top quark and Higgs boson under the direction of Prof. Paul Tipton, currently at Yale University.
After a two year Postdoctoral Position at Duke University in Experimental Particle Physics and one year Postdoctoral Position at University of Rochester in Computational Immunology, he transitioned to medicine. He graduated from the University of Rochester, School of Medicine and completed his internship at Unity Hospital in Rochester, New York. He then completed his ophthalmology residency at the University of Texas Main Branch where he served as Chief Resident.
He has written and collaborated on numerous articles in the field of experimental particle physics and ophthalmology as well as presented at many national and international meetings. He is also a member of the Texas State Ophthalmology Society, and the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
