Cerumen (earwax) works to self-clean your inner ears, by lubricating the ear canal and forming a waxy build-up, that protects the eardrums and forces bacteria, dirt, and dust out of the ear.

Can I use standard Q-tips to clear the cerumen in my ear?
No. It is very important not to use Q-tips or any cotton swabs to try and remove your own ear wax, because the swabs can push the wax further into the ear canal, making extraction more difficult or cause damage to the ear drum.
