What Is Laser Vision Correction?
Laser vision correction is an advanced surgical procedure used to correct myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), and astigmatism. A cold laser beam of light is used to gently reshape the surface of your eye. This changes how light passes through the eye and where the light focuses on the retina. More than 96% of our patients enjoy 20/20 vision or better as a result of LASIK or PRK.

What Is CustomVue LASIK?
CustomVue is the most advanced FDA approved (approved in May 2003) LASIK procedure using WaveScan technology. We are now able to carefully measure the unique characteristics of each individual's vision and develop a treatment plan designed specifically for that person. This gives a more precise and accurate treatment, allowing individuals to achieve their best possible vision. This treatment is also helpful in reducing post-operative glare in patients with large pupils.
Is The Laser FDA Approved?
We use the VISX STAR Excimer Laser System, which is an FDA approved laser. The laser has an eye-tracking device that follows even slight eye movements during the procedure. Our laser is located in our surgicenter.
What Payment Options Are Available?
We accept your personal check, cashier's check, cash, or any of the following major credit cards, VISA, Mastercard, Discover, and American Express. In addition, 18 months no interest financing is available.
Understanding Your Prescription
Your prescription is composed of three numbers:
-/+300 -/+100 x 90 (a sample prescription)
The first number -/+300 identifies the amount of your nearsightedness (-) or farsightedness (+).
The second number -100 identifies the amount of your astigmatism. This number can be written either as a + or - number.
The third number 90 identifies the axis, which indicates the direction of your astigmatism.
The general guidelines we use for LASIK are: Up to -11.00 for nearsightedness
Up to + 4.00 for farsightedness, and
Up to +/- 5.00 for astigmatism
Am I Good Candidate?
Complimentary consultations are available with our program coordinator. This screening determines if you are a potential candidate for LASIK. A complete evaluation is then scheduled with one of our surgeons to determine final candidacy.
If you are at least 21 years of age, in good general health, good eye health, and have realistic expectations; you are likely a good candidate. Laser Vision Correction however, isn't for everyone. Some patients with corneal or retinal diseases, cataracts, glaucoma, or history of eye muscle problems, may never be candidates.
If I Wear Contact Lenses, Do I Need to Remove Them Prior To The Evaluation?
For the consultation with our program coordinator, you do not need to remove contact lenses prior to the appointment. You will need to remove them during the visit and then may reinsert them prior to leaving.
For the full evaluation with the surgeon, you will need to have the contact lenses removed in accordance with the schedule below:
- Soft contact lenses: 2 weeks prior to the evaluation
- Rigid Gas Permeable / Hard lenses: 4 weeks prior to evaluation - (If you've worn them longer than 10 years they must be removed 6 weeks prior)
- This allows the cornea to return to its natural shape and gives you the best outcome possible.
Do I Have Realistic Expectations?
The most common expectation people have after LASIK is to become free from contacts or glasses. Laser Vision Correction was designed to significantly reduce or eliminate the need for contacts or glasses. Some patients after surgery may need a pair of glasses to wear while driving at night, driving in rainy or dismal conditions, or doing fine, detailed work. It is important to remember that eventually patients over the age of 45 will require reading glasses. This is the case whether or not you have LASIK surgery performed.
