Refractive Lens Implant - Alternative to LASIK
Refractive lens implant (RLI) surgery can correct nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism or presbyopia (the need for bifocal or reading glasses) using Advanced Technology intraocular lens implants (IOLs). These lenses are excellent options for patients over the age of 45 who are looking to reduce their dependency on distance and reading glasses.
How it Works
The procedure is exactly the same as the most commonly done surgery today, cataracts. The eye is anesthetized to ensure comfort during the procedure. The surgeon makes a micro-incision along the corneal edge and uses gentle ultrasonic vibrations to remove the eye’s natural lens. The natural lens is then replaced with an IOL. The IOL gently unfolds inside the eye. The self-sealing micro-incision ensures that no sutures are needed. To better meet the needs of our patients, we offer various types of IOLs.
Who can Benefit?
If you are over 45 years old and are tired of bifocals, you may be a candidate for RLI surgery. The IOL that is best for you depends on the unique characteristics of your eye and your lifestyle needs.

IOL Options
When considering your options we ask patients to consider three questions: 1) How much night driving do you do? 2) How much do you use the computer or perform tasks at arm’s length? 3) How much reading or close work do you do?
