LASIK Eye Surgery
What Is LASIK & PRK Surgery?
LASIK is a surgical procedure that corrects nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism using a laser to reshape the surface of your cornea. Reshaping the cornea changes the angle at which light enters your eye, thereby correcting any refractive errors. At the Hauser-Ross Eye Institute, 98% of our patients enjoy 20/20 vision or better as a result of LASIK.
How Does It Work?
An instrument, called a microkeratome, creates a flap in the cornea. The laser is then applied delivering pulses of ultraviolet light to gently reshape the corneal surface. The corneal flap is then returned to its original position which promotes comfort, healing, and a quicker visual recovery.
About Our Laser
We use an FDA approved VISX STAR 4 Excimer laser. Our team of highly skilled doctors chose this laser for its cost effectiveness and successful visual outcomes.
CustomVue technology measures the unique characteristics of each patient’s vision and develops a treatment plan specific to each eye. This technology allows individuals to achieve their best vision by using the most accurate treatment.
Benefits of LASIK
LASIK candidates are nearsighted, farsighted or have astigmatism and are tired of the hassle of glasses or contact lenses.

Like LASIK, the PRK procedure utilizes the Excimer laser to reshape the corneal curvature to treat your refractive error. Unlike LASIK, the PRK treatment is applied to the corneal surface rather than creating a corneal flap. After the procedure, patients should expect mild discomfort and light sensitivity for two to three days. Visual recovery for most PRK patients is about three to seven days.
Who Can Benefit?
PRK is available to patients whose corneas are too thin for LASIK. It is also a great option for patients considering a career, in certain branches of the armed forces, that does not allow LASIK.
